Well meaning rhetoric by politicians has meant diddly squat. Truss now wants to further trash our wildlife. Farm subsidies that support wildlife to be withdrawn, planning restrictions abandoned, and regulations protecting the environment to be burnt.
The world’s population has grown from 2.6 billion to 7.6 billion in my lifetime. Hundreds of billions have been lifted out of poverty which is brilliant. But their consumption has also risen dramatically. We need to halt the world. population growth and move to sustainable economies across the world. This will cause nationalist mutterings and even rebellion in many countries. Fertility rates are falling significantly, but the worlds economic woes will not help this. USA republican attitudes to abortion are reflective of an anti-natural world economic philosophy.
Yes we can feed a world population if 10 billion theoretically. Distribution and supply means that poverty will continue (society as we know it probably means this too).
Migration – a topic which raises hackles! Inevitably people will want to move to areas of greater property (M.Thatcher told the unemployed to get on their bikes to get a job). What is needed is growth! in the standard of living of everyone across the world. Less plastic crap and more long lasting quality possessions would enable a move to this situation in a few decades.
