SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL

Even the fit young, healthy, look at me brigade can suffer from. this virus, and it can be long term, and they can spread it to others. So can I, double stabbed with Pfizer but not immune.

Chatting to Pete today I realise that the governments furlough scheme has not been universally successful, that business’s like his have had a huge financial hit, with little help. However the recovery will require the health of everyone. The fact that 3 of the 6 people in Lancashire who are hospitalised, had been vaccinated is concerning.

Pete needs to get his business back up and running so he can Continue to employ people. With our present weather it will need to be inside. Outside seems to be no problems will we ever get back to indoor gatherings of a close kind? I would guess booking times will be more careful in the future, but for restaurants a bit more space might be necessary – and that means a bit higher costs – but I think this might be the future.

A problem he says is getting decent staff. I wonder why not? I am sure Pete is a good employer paying the going rate. Have we lost the loyalty bit with employment? This is no reflection on Pete, but the market generally. Are young people no longer encouraged to form loyal relationships with employers as it is just about exploiting each other for what each can get? Short employment contracts are the norm? Rather than lifetime ones? I was first made aware of this in 1990 in the USA – but I do not think it resonates with European values?
