TAX

So why we need is higher taxes for the wealthy. Perhaps a property tax on houses worth more than £5 million. Windfall taxes on banks and financial institutions making vast profits out of the present crisis. e.g. the oil trading firm that just paid out several BILLION £ in bonus payments.

Increase public spending, introduce social care measures, commence a massive training programme for NHS jobs. Increase wages. Move government departments to the regions.

ReNationalise the Railways and water industries. Renationalise the Royal Mail but allow it greater freedom to compete – maybe 5-day deliveries of general post with a premium delivery of 7 days a week (and as fast as possible), and a standard instead of first and second class.

A new tax system will be needed for road traffic – can the discussion start before we are railroaded into an unfair scheme. We need a proper look at society as there is a great deal of absurdity in the way our (and the worlds) transport systems work. Number of cars is rising at a ridiculous rate. Building new roads seems to encourage growth. Rural areas have an excuse. Would a flat rate in cities for public transport) allow removing traffic from the roads (better quality of life, less pollution and thus better health) and efficiencies. Removing the need for people to commute into the cities would help immensely. Local office hubs where people can rent office space would seem to be the answer I would come up with. Not working from home, but near (walking or cycling distance). Fully equipped with high speed wi-fi, bookable conference rooms with hi-tec cameras for Zoom or what ever, copiers, etc. Perhaps even secretarial help? Kitchen facilities and/or a small cafe with dispensers or proper chefs depending on size?

Households could reduce to one vehicle of even none – there could be an increase in hire cars across the country or car share clubs.

A hike in taxes on property over £5 million should lead to the owners looking for a new way to make money?
