Pandemic – government continues to put a populist agenda before practical policies. The surge in cases in Bedford was noted 2 weeks before the government reacted. wastewater analysis was used, which does not identify individuals, but does identify areas of concern. Meanwhile Downing Street puts pressure on Public Health England to withdraw evidence that the India variant is being spread in schools.

Chaos and farce – which government departments have been outstandingly awful this week. Well we have mention the Trade deal with Australia. But it is a tie between the permanent challenger for the title; DoE with exam results and university entrance being yet again called a fiasco; and making a strong bid again the Foreign Office seems unable to say or do anything coherent regarding holidays abroad.

On holidays abroad – I guess the main demand is from age groups not yet vaccinated, who therefore need testing before and after, at great cost to them. So vaccine passports are of only limited value. But it would seem logical to have clear guidelines – what do we pay Ministers and Civil Servants for? It is more like ‘Yes Minister’ every minute.
