I am sympathetic to the ‘Stop the War’ Movement, but they fail to see the difference between proactive actions (Libya) and reactive actions in this case. I think we need to be very aware that we do not escalate military matters. Putin is a psychopath – a bully – a misogynist homophobe – who needs handling with care.
Ukraine is a sovereign independent nation which has been invaded. How this is responded to requires a metaphorical iron fist in a velvet glove. Stringent financial sanctions agreed with the likes of China, supported by measures to reduce the inevitable cost to the poor in the rest of the world.
Like any crisis it offers a chance to introduce radical solutions to the economic chaos that we have at the moment.
Finally why has it taken the Conservative Government over a decade to bring in legislation to stop the Laundromat that is the City of London financial centre.
