VACCINES

However as the UK and other G7 countries vaccinate those not at risk maybe we should take a deep look at the morality of this situation. I personally, have been more, or less isolating for the last 15 months. I am now fully dosed up with the Pfizer jab. So I could pretend that I am fully immune. However I know that is not true – we all need to be careful. Should the UK be exporting more vaccine? I think the answer is yes. But it is not a simple yes/no question.

Only 3 of 9 patients with Covid at East Lancashire Hospital hd not had at least one jab. So it would seem sensible and prudent for areas with surges/new variants are prioritised with mass vaccination and testing. For the rest of us – well I hate the media sponsored campaign to get everyone hugging and returning to 2019. Over 120 thousand people have died due to this malicious virus in the UK. We have to remain cautious. We also have to prepare for the next one! SARS, AIDS, Bird Flu, the virus’ will develop ever faster as we encroach more on the natural world. There is a completely new story here. But we do need to remember that there will be a new one, probably in the next 10 years. Will we be ready?

So, back to vaccine issue. My personal belief – without scientific advice – is that we should vaccine bomb surge areas, but give as much as we can to prevent the worldwide spread. Virus mutate all the time, so the less we share our vaccine, the more the virus has an opportunity to mutate. And we have also seen that our government is incapable of making fast decisive decisions (why was India not added to red list for so long after Pakistan?).
