The wage differential has widened considerably since my youth, and society as a whole has suffered. The destruction of the economy by Thatcher has had huge ramifications that she of the rioters should understand. A factory in the 1960’s would have paid skilled workers a decent wage, houses were 3 or 4 times the wage, rents were not onerous, council houses were relatively plentiful. The economy has transferred to the City where bonus’s are out of order and the benefit to the economy and society limited.
Crowd Funding have a page to raise money for a jailed rioter. This is so wrong even if his children have been made homeless. We have a welfare state for that purpose. If the thought of harming their families is enough of a deterent to stop them behaving like knobs, so be it!
