WEATHER – OCTOBER 2020

October – The last couple of days have been distinctly autumnal. Storm Alex has been centred over northern France so winds here have been northerly and it has been cold (14C) and wet and a bit dark. Today is for inside so I might do some baking later – and I wish I had a log fire on a day like this.

October – Eskimo’s have many words for types of snow. What word should we have for the cold globule of water projected at our faces by high winds? It stings the face and there is nothing nice about it! A torrential downpour I am more than happy with, but this stuff is not nice, it has a rawness and cruelty about it. It is not even proper rain that you can look out of the window at, and be glad you are inside. Just tiny projectiles that are designed to annoy and provoke irritation.

October – no change here, rain has, if anything got heavier but not more persistent. Fairly mild but dampness made it feel cold at 6.30am this morning as I set out the papers in the shop. I am not too sure how that job happened. I guess the cup of tea and a quick chat after was a no brainer – I would have been up with Benji for the last 14 years so the early morning is more than nice for half the year, but shit in the dark and wet! I quite like to be vaguely appreciated (it is only really a chore on Saturdays).

October – Wet this morning but brightening up. Birds trying to eat me out of house and home! I worried that a greenfinch might eat so much that he/she would not be able to fly!

October – definitely colder today. And about to rain again. Dark mornings too!

October – how did that happen and those days disappear? Colder, bits and pieces of rain for the last few days. Some sunny bits. Typical autumn really.

October – very wet this morning with a damp mist too. Relatively warm, heating off but I am putting the little electric heater on for a while. Basically typical English weather, in fact this year has had fairly typical English weather, a mix, a bit unpredictable, a dry period, a short hot one, regular rainfall. NICE!

October – very wet. Meeting Tams and Tom and the girls at Haldon Woods. Lovely seeing them, but drive home was a bit difficult with driving rain. And rain everyday since. Trees looking fabulous though.

October – wet start to the day. Just damp and dreary.

October – same again, but getting windy. Mild but I have the heating on to dry washing!

October – same again – forecast that next Wednesday might be dry, then a couple more days. Very mild.

October – All Hallows Eve. Yeah wet.

Overall a wet month, fairly mild – no frosts, a bit windy at times. Certainly no Indian Summer.
