I was therefore a little disappointed that the Guardian had found an American Weather forecaster predicting a cold winter (DTN). Their logic may well be correct regarding the weakening of the polar vortex, but the paper should have put it in the context I have. So anyway, DTN predict February to be the coldest giving the government at least 4 months (with probably a couple of cold snaps for practice beforehand) to ensure the gritting lorries have drivers and grit/salt, energy supplies and reserves are built up, etc.
