WEMBLEY AND CASEY REVIEW

Firstly the Met.Police seems to have become so underfunded as to have been unable to exert any authority. The Casey report states that 45% of ticketed fans sa3w someone taking cocaine! Mixed with alcohol too. the entrance to Olympic Way is owned by a property developer – Quintain, which complicated matters. but ultimately the fault lies with the FA. Trouble had been increasing through the tournament and it appears that they had no back up plan.

Clubs also deserve some blame for not fully clamping down on thuggish behaviour.

On football – I read an article about Sir Geoff Hurst – what a gentleman. few people have the highs and lows that he has had, yet he retains so much dignity. In 1964 he paid £5050 for a house – at about the same time my parents bought a very nice detached 3 bedroom house for £12.000 I think. So playing for England brought meagre returns compared to Ronaldo’s £250.000 a week.
