WILD GARDENS

I have started trying the mints. Japanese mint is quite strong, whilst lime and eau de cologne are more subtle. Today’s samples were Bowes – excellent full bouquet and berries and cream which is again more subtle. And slugs – I have some in the greenhouse but they do not seem to be wreaking havoc yet! In the front garden I put 2 trays of basil out (a mix of sweet, lemon and greek) – one was decimated but the other untouched! They are 3m apart? Geum did not germinate at all. Cucumber looks ok at the moment a few flowers. I am also not sure if the lemon trees and the lime are going to produce or not? There were some flowers and tiny buds that do not seem to be growing.

I have harvested some raspberries and wild strawberries. Apricot tree is definitely dead – I might replace in the autumn? It was brilliant for 3 years.

House plants – aloe vera (I think) are amazing and I might take to shop at £3/5 a pop. They are pretty, and easy to grow – too many babies at the moment! But not as bad as mother of thousands! I need to stress the peppers!

Delivery of 6 moroccan mints – repotted and I think they will be ready to pass on or sell in 3 weeks. Moroccan is recommended by Jekka, and Bowes is ‘the connoisseur culinary mint’.
