The prevailing wind in the UK is from the SW. So for us here it is coming from Uphill/Hutton.

Chinook/Fohn – a warm wind blowing down the leeward side of a mountain and causing snow to melt – upset Winter Olympics in Canada.

Monsoon – wind blowing off the pacific and carrying prodigious amounts of rain for Asia

Anabatic and katabatibc winds – winds that blow up and down valleys due to temperature differences.

Mistral – a cold north westerly wind in France mainly

Harmattan – a seasonal wind that brings supposedly medical benefits and is known as the doctor in the Gulf of Guinea

Doldrums – an area with few winds due to the ITCZ
