WOMEN AND SAFETY

Police are apparently trying to find out whether the victim got into a car or was abducted from the bus stop. To be honest the distinction is irrelevant, other than narrowing down potential suspects.

3.1% of women (510,000) and 0.8% of men (138,000) aged 16 to 59 had experienced a sexual assault in the last year.  This is not an historic issue – but a present and real threat. 58856 cases of rape reported to police, prosecutions 2102. I realise that evidence in these cases is difficult, but surely these statistics should be causing panic in the Home Office about the competence of police and CPS?

Police presence on our streets is much diminished – I honestly cannot remember seeing a police car in Sandford for probably a couple of years – OK I should get out more! But there seems to be a real need to do something to counter the widespread pornography that dominates the internet apparently. Education is the main way, but law enforcement – not new laws, as these are just a legislative cop out. We have the laws against harassment and stalking, but do not seem to be putting the resources into enacting them. We have 160000 police officers in the UK – do the stats – the police have an impossible task.

But with sexual harassment being so prevalent there needs a concerted effort to ensure the streets are safe for our wives, daughters, granddaughters, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, etc.
