ZAPPED AGAIN

Labour lagging in polls in Hartlepool and possibly all over. Starmer’s problem is that he is too much of a politician in the Westminster image, lacks charisma and policies. Labour needs a Nicola Sturgeon type – someone with balls! To be honest a vote for labour under Starmer is what? probably a safe pair of hands? But the country needs a vision, a battle with Johnson for the popular vote. Nationalisation of the railways, proper apprenticeships in new green industries, promise to nationalise without compensation companies accepting NHS contracts, a sliding scale corporation tax, a tax on all sales made in the UK, increased expenditure on the railways in north and west, A tax on second home ownership to compensate local councils for impact on local communities or maybe a 10% limit on ownership/occupation of second homes. Big roll out of electric charging points and a motor tax incentive. Invest a couple of million in a major report on the impact of climate change and the policies needed. new building regulations to ensure environmental compliance. Look at role of policing – how to get community policing back?

I was also chatting/listening to Kate regarding the PTA. Its purpose is? To raise money for the school for things that are not covered by the school budget; To provide a link between school and parents. Regarding Sandford – the money raising would be most convenienty met by pensioners like me, and of course Thatchers. Strongvox will be here today/gone tomorrow, as will other builders (and Kate give them some slack due to Covid lockdown, but they should cough up in the end).

What would be good would be for the school to be rebuilt on the back lane and the shop and village hall take on the school site. The village will get traffic busier with the Banwell bypass, although Thatcher lorries should mostly go west, and the same for Sweetings lorries. But there will be an increase in traffic, coaches and cars that would have gone up the hill at Banwell will now come through Sandford to Churchill to get to Cheddar and Axbridge.
