DAILY LIES

The Mail leads with story of Welsh patients going to England for treatment. This is an agreed understanding for patients along the border. After all the NHS is funded from Whitehall and only partially controlled by Senned Cymru. I also wonder what the long term effects of the dependence of the nation on mining and heavy industry have been?

The Express is desperately trying to sell Brexit as a success story stating that 75% of firms have repatriated manufacture since Brexit. That would be 75% of the 10% still manufacturing in the UK, and probably doing so due to the bureaucracy created by Brexit.

bless their little socks – they need to support the nasty party where possible! The Torygraph has a half-hearted attack on Lady Hallett and the Covid enquiry. It also features a picture of Meagan and an anti-stress bracelet – I am sure the photo willl help her stress levels – the go to paper of the caring tory government!

HURRICANES

NOAA’s update to the 2023 outlook — which covers the entire six-month hurricane season that ends on Nov. 30 — calls for 14-21 named storms (winds of 39 mph or greater), of which 6-11 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or greater). Of those, 2-5 could become major hurricanes (winds of 111 mph or greater). NOAA provides these ranges with a 70% confidence. These updated ranges include storms that have already formed this season.

FOOTBALL -PL ROUND 1!

Well I know first impressions are not always correct and the transfer window has a while (and Spurs have a wad to spend). But there was an outstanding result today with the barCodes thrashing Villa. I am not sure this predicts a demise of the Villa or the rise to Premiership winners for NewC’s. I suspect the latter! Elsewhere Arsenal grabbed full points without being convincing; Brighton stuffed Luton – which may become a habit for the Hatters? Bournemouth and WHU played out a mid table draw! The Blades were blunted Crystals as Palace won 1-0 which says little for the season ahead. And then Everton v Fulham. Was this already a 6 pointer? TBH Everton look stuffed, no money to buy and a team lacking confidence and luck!

So today – Brentford – Spurs, and Chelsea -Liverpool. Will we learn a lot about the season ahead? Tomorrows game is ManU-Wolves which should be straightforward for UTD. I think we may have the top 8 and bottom 8 sorted by 11pm on Monday! Half time and Brentford are 2-2 Spurs. Have the likes of Brentford and Brighton really made it to mid-table fixtures? Both were earmarked for immediate relegation when promoted? Or are they the Leicesters and Southamptons – up of a while and then going back down? I suppose it all comes down to money. Even with a sound youth academy Southampton have struggled.

GREEN POLITICS

First Zac Goldsmith and now Andy Street have come out to warn against the retreat from Net Zero and environmental protection. With the tories still trailing badly in the polls it is surprising that more have spoken out against Sunak’s environmental back tracking.

First the Cabinet tried the attack on demonstrators via legislation, then they tried to demonise Labour as being the political wing of just stop oil. Unfortunately for them most people agree with philosophy of Greenpeace and Just Stop Oil if not the tactics used. I know there are plenty of hairy knob heads who don’t care as long as they can drive their cars and bikes along suburban streets at dangerous speeds.

But most people can see fires across Europe and elsewhere (and now floods and landslides in Norway), and make the link to climate change and burning fossil fuels. The governments response to Greenpeace’s harmless covering of Sunak’s house was frankly childish beyond measure. They will not talk to the group anymore and have ordered civil servants to cut links. Greenpeace provide valuable knowledge and data on many issues such as deep sea mining..

Latest reports show 90% British Rivers to be in a poor state. Sea quality at a number of resorts is too bad to swim. Labour has an opportunity here to crush the nasty party – is Starmer brave enough?

GREEN INNOVATION

I don’t get it! Analysis of global data shows that the UK has lagged behind the rest of the world in investment in renewable energy. Growth is approx. half of the rates in the rest of the world. The investment in solar panels on houses is largely at the cost of the installer and with a small subsidy the cost to government is negligible! Whist the National Grid seems to be having problems with connections a subsidy for homeowners to provide batteries would make sense. I know this favours the middle class homeowners – so that is why there should be a minimum standard of insulation with subsidies where necessary, and requirements put on landlords. Renewable energy supply to the Grid is running at near 50%. The government is giving grants to fossil fuel companies whist prohibiting them from claiming claw backs for renewables from the windfall tax!

As schools are mainly open during the day – solar panels should be oblicultry – f the spelling of that! – with batteries provided they could have “free energy” – probably equivalent to one or teachers salaries, plus a huge data base for maths and science lessons!

CLIMATE CHANGE

Interesting that the government and RWThink Tanks are not campaigning about climate change not happening any more. But about the cost to the poor! This is so fucking disingenuous as to be untrue. The government allows the petrochemical companies and their financiers to make massive profits whilst refusing to subsidise green energy and sustainability. How dare they use poor people to justify their blatant disregard for the planet.

CLIMATE CRISIS

Ozone hole appearing earlier over Antarctica could mean greater ice loss. Since 1992 sea level has risen by 2.1cm due to melt of Antarcican and Greenland ice. 2.1 cm may not seem much, but climate bigots should ask their wives if 2.1cm extra would make a difference!

Basically Corporations and Governments are playing Russian Roulette with our future. meanwhile on Earth – wildfires spread towards the Algave, temperatures in Santarem reached 46.4C, Norway and Scandinavia are suffering from landslides and heavy rain, 2 dead and 1.1m homes with no electric in US North-East, tornado warnings across 10 states from Tennessee to NY, South Korea evacuates scouts for international scout camp as a typhoon nears.

On a positive – 3 small skipper butterflies and some painted ladies on my buddlela bush surrounded by nettles and thistles. Lots of flying insects too which is great.

ASYLUM SEEKERS

The current arguments that that they should be pleased to have a roof over their heads whilst thousands sleep on the streets of the UK is plain wrong. Homeless on the streets is due to government policy. The fact that the government takes so long to process asylum seekers is their policy, as is the denial of their right to work. Surely there are many employers who would happily register for these workers. processing those with legitimate claims should not be taking months. But it is a government policy to keep them in the news as they perceive it as a vote winner. They talk about costs but do not care about that as long as they can claim the votes of the bigoted.

MP’s have not signed up to a second/third jobs charter despite the total amount being earned is nearly £10 million (nearly half by Johnson). Attendance rates are low for some – non-existent for others (Dorries and the Dorset QC bloke? ). Attendance at the local surgeries should be compulsory with normal employment rules. They are rewarded with good remuneration and enhanced career prospects if that is what they desire.

SPITE

I will not apologise for my reference to the Holocaust here. What the Government are doing in mind washing swaths of the British Public into believing that it is justifiable and correct to incarcerate innocent people fleeing from terror in a prison ship or even sending them to Ascension Island. This is what the Nazi’s did to the German Public – they convinced them that Jews were evil. Whilst the scale and scope of the Nazi death machine was much worse, the ethics and methods seem very similar. And the British Public watched – with many applauding. This is horrific. If it was the criminal gangs behind the migrants it would still be hard to justify. Can I ask the question – how many of these gang leaders have they caught, which banks service their loot?

Itvalso seems that Starmer is being coerced into a situation where he will find it very difficult to extricate himself from – the economy is being shredded, contracts drawn up. If he had guts he would state publicly that the new government will not find new contracts to be legally binding in certain circumstances like prison barges, Rwanda, Ascension Island, the HoL, etc.

Sunday cooking!

Ladolemono dressing made for salad. Lemon drizzle cake made, baguettes ok but not great!, black beans with chilli, flageolet beans with herbs, lamb marinated – I will douse in gram flour before frying. I might do some hard boiled eggs too – tarragon and a little fennel, with ladolemono? Then a greek lentil salad. Toms with basil and Olive oil. Washing done too but not putting it out yet as there are some showers around! What is worse than it raining cats and dogs? Hailing taxis!!! Made me laugh! Why should you never be hungry on the beach? The sand which is all about! easiest spelling? ICY – just say it out loud!
