COVID – THE FARCE CONTINUES

Javid criticised by the speaker for by-passing Parliament and issuing policy by press release. Government policy is to ignore any comments that do not say how wonderful they are. Positive thought is all that is needed. He is also criticised by doctors for issuing diktats regarding patients and introducing league tables. He really has no clue, which makes it surprising that compared to Maggie Throup the Vaccines Minister, he is almost coherent! John Grace said she would be out of her depth in a tea cup but I think he is being too generous.

COP26

We will have world leaders or at least some, China’s Xi is staying away and Brazil’s boss and Aussies Skunk might as well do so too. The developed world have contributed 80% of the CO2 increase so far and yet expect poorer countries to not copy their path out of poverty to relative wealth for all.

CAN DEMOCRACY STEP UP

Democracy cn be very nice – candidates have to say the right things, and every few years there is an opportunity to ditch them. this is the problem. Some problems can be solved reasonably quickly – even Covid? But others require decades or longer.

LA LA LAND

the Governments green strategy is in tatters before the first page is read. Johnson says we will all be driving, flying, heating our homes by cheap power. He totally misses the point. Whilst becoming carbon neutral is urgent, it is not the only factor.

COVID

As numbers continue to surge the Minister for Ill Health states that now is not the time for Plan B. Why? Because some of his colleagues disagree with science, medicine and basically anything else based on evidence.

COVID

Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng says now is not the time to turn to the government’s winter back-up strategy. Why? On what health grounds does he base his views? Wearing a mask costs nothing you bozo! keeping social distancing is sensible you bozo! Is ‘will it make Johnson more or less popular’ the only offing criteria nowadays?

ECONOMICS

The Government is to provide £5000 grants to 90000 households to install heat pumps. It hopes the cost of the pumps will come down with increased sales. Firstly there should be a subsidy to reflect the energy produced and thus reducing the need for massive public investment in new power stations. Secondly what is to stop the manufacturers of heat pumps to increase their wages and bonus’ in line with increased sales. Surely it would be better for government to take a share in these companies and use the investment to increase production and efficiency? The tax payer would get a return and ultimately the company could be sold. I am sure the Government could also offset the investment so it was not listed as an expenditure, thus appeasing the Treasury.
