POLITICAL WILL

This phrase has been used extensively in recent days. The lack of action on rapidly increasing Covid cases is due to a lack of political will. Global inertia regarding action on fossil fuels is down to. a lack of political will, etc.etc.

EARTHSHOT – £1million each

The winners

Protect and Restore Nature:

  • The Republic of Costa Rica: Costa Rica was a country that once cleared most of its forests, but it has now doubled the number of trees and is seen as a role model for others to follow. The winning project is a scheme paying local citizens to restore natural ecosystems that has led to a revival of the rainforest

Clean our Air:

  • Takachar, India: A portable machine created to turn agricultural waste into fertiliser so that farmers do not burn their fields and cause air pollution

Revive our Oceans:

  • Coral Vita, Bahamas: A project run by two best friends who are growing coral in the Bahamas, designed to restore the world’s dying coral reefs. Using special tanks, they have developed a way to grow coral up to 50 times faster than they normally take in nature

Build a Waste-Free World:

  • The City of Milan Food Waste Hubs, Italy: Another challenge is waste – and the city of Milan in Italy wins a prize for collecting unused food and giving it to people who need it most. The initiative has dramatically cut waste while tackling hunger

Fix our Climate:

  • AEM Electrolyser, Thailand/Germany/Italy: A clever design in Thailand using renewable energy to make hydrogen by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen is a clean gas but it is usually produced by burning fossil fuels

BLAH BLAH LAND

So the government will allocate £450 million to install 90000 heat pumps in the Uk’s 30 million homes. Then twatface says people are saying they go too fast – only his nasty party cronies.

ECJ

A ‘U” turn of epic proportions. Johnson has gone from get Brexit done, to ‘let’s drag it out for as long as possible as it is the thing which got me the PM job!”.

COVID

Cases reached 49156 yesterday and hospitalisations and deaths have also risen, albeit at a much lower level than in earlier waves of the virus. So what is the Government doing? Errr – nothing of course – having told people to be sensible it is no longer their responsibilty!

COP26

Should I go? Probably not, but I will support those who do go to protest. The “sponsors” are complaining that they are not getting enough publicity – what did they expect from an incompetent government? The fact that ‘sponsors’ have been found totally undermines the whole show.

DEATHS

Of course it is very sad and concerning that David Amiss was stabbed to death. It does raise the issue of whether some lives are worth more than others? Over 500 people a week die in the UK, but it is barely mentioned in the press.

POINTING THE FINGER

The expanding waiting list for treatment is apparently the fault of the doctors and nurses states Health Secretary Said Javid. Social distancing roles in surgeries to be scrapped and patients will have the right to see a doctor in person. Despite increases in violence towards doctors and the continuing pandemic – yes it is continuing with more than 500 people per week dying- the government is again imposing rules that will please the right wingers. And basically spitting in the face of those who have risked their lives for the benefit of others over the last 20 months.

NUCLEAR FUSION

Potentially a short term answer to climate change? Certainly a lots less radiation and no greenhouse gases once it is up and running. But I know I am thick when it comes to science but if the power generated is converted to heat – surely that will add to the earths temperature?
