The government will be wrong to just relax the lockdown. Surely it should be, that the pubs may re-open, if compliant with social distancing, etc., but this does not mean it is safe or risk free. I think some people see the governments dictations on lockdown as sacrosanct – if the pubs and restaurants are allowed to open it must be safe! It is not. There are also thousands of people refusing to wear masks across the country – selfish pricks.
I liked the comparison with hurricane prediction – scientists have a large amount of data and can predict some parameters. At present not brilliant for Xmas and covid. However, unlike a hurricane, we can influence the impact. I am not sure that everyone wants to comply.
So Christmas 2020. I am sure many will disregard all safety measures and we will see a big surge of cases in January. Especially older people. I am pleased that the government accepted my argument for an extra day holiday next summer. Now to make it a real festival for all – Perhaps John Lewis can commission a new song? With a bit about taking your litter home as well? The spring or summer fairy who brings warmth and happiness? OK take fingers out of mouth – it is a nice idea, and better than killing your relatives at Xmas.
