Whether it will always be in the direction we wish is debatable, but is better than allowing small minded despots like Putin, Xi Jinping, Erdogan, Bolsonaro, Kim Jong-un, and more to have an impact on the world stage. Democracy is often crap, as Johnson and Morrison in Australia are showing, but at least we have the opportunity to depose them peacefully.
