GEOGRAPHY OF VACCINATION

I fully expected the major urban areas with a younger population and more BAME to be less vaccinated (My trust for Government is below zero %, so if I was BAME I am fairly sure I would be very sceptical about vaccination), but there seems to be another pattern.

Oxford, Cambridge, Exeter, Bristol, Brighton, Reading, Southampton, Norwich are all towns I would have expected high rates of vaccination. But no, is it because they are University towns? But then Ipswich is similar? Scotland generally has a higher vaccination rate than England apart from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Putting it down to students is easy – but is their an urban elitist element. Peterborough and Boston and Lincoln are also low – was their Brexit vote an anti-government of any sort vote? The great northern cities have lower rates of vaccination – Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Newcastle, Leeds, Middlesbrough but then Preston? and Lancaster (Uni town again). Oh and Birmingham!

I really do hope the Mandarins of Whitehall are crunching the numbers to ensure their vaccination drives are targeted and successful!
