Of course not all objectives would be met, corruption would occur, but could it have been worse than the thousands of deaths and consignment of generations to poverty. I would suggest that it could still be done. Yes the Taliban are horribly misogynist, and that will not change in a hurry, but securing a food supply would improve the average woman’s lives, increasing the availability of labour saving devices in the home would inevitably lead to greater emancipation. Children would become better educated, etc. A slow process, but one hopefully free from the bloodshed and destruction of the past.
