LOBBIES

Time for honesty and transparency in Government at all levels, national and local. No more dodgy dealings in the clubs and restaurants of Westminster, or on holiday in the West Indies.

The general ethos and structure of larger firms mitigates against innovation (they try to come in and buy the best ideas later). This also compromises their stance on lobbying, they are basically against change, yet we need to be able to target resources and research very quickly to combat both medical emergencies like Covid, but also climate change.

Climate change is not going away. Oil firms have spent hundreds of millions if not billions trying to mitigate government actions on climate change. As an innocent and idealistic geography teacher back in the 1970’s BP and Shell were sending out literature to schools, free, suggesting that they supported renewable energy! I believed them – now I am very, very cynical of their motives for any ‘green initiative’. Why? Because I know they will have ‘bought’ the relevant public figures – I will even absolve some of these people as they are bound to be wowed by the slick technology used to sway them. Or by the £500 meal and extra ‘gifts’.
