OLYMPICS

And has Trump really said that there will be no need for an election in 4 years time? I do not understand!

Rumours from the Tory right are that Labour will raise CGT and Inheritance Tax. Ok I am nerer death than birth as I am 71. I have worked hard all my life and have paid tax and contributed to my own pension (apart fro 6 months in Cornwall at the age of 20!). At present I am marginal for inheritance tax with my house and pension pots amounting to around £500.000. To the whingers who state that they have already paid tax on the money they invested in property of shares I say FUCK OFF! I had a free education upto and including University; I have benefited from the NHS with free dentistry for much of my life. In general my standard of living has just got better and better until the past 8 years. Since Brexit I have watched the quality of life in the UK fall, food banks proliferate along with shoplifting. If Labour need to tax people like me more to restore the hopes and aspirations of the young then I say go ahead! My children will probably agree with me?

I am not totally altruistic and am fully aware that any hit on the rich will have a minor impact on me, I am not rich (apart from in my soul and family). I believe any future tax should be on wealth – my 3 bed suburban but rural bungalow would probably warrant a higher council tax than at present, but how many larger properties would come on the market if council tax was hiked for larger properties? Guilt – I am single and live in a 3 bed bungalow – should I downsize? Probably – but my garden and the wildlife associated which now includes frogs would disagree! But then am I the problem? Second homes are numbered in thousands but not all are bad. Talking to Maz, she agreed that Cornwall (and presumably other tourist hotspots) have the problem of having jobs but not careers. And without the later the development of a healthy sustainable society is near on impossible? I feel a Cornwall post coming on!
