UKRAINE

  • Russia is finding the war a different concept to that which they had probably envisaged.
  • Sanctions are hurting Russia and will have an increasing impact on the young and poor – so care must be used with care, and not just forgotten in the long term.
  • China – Needs to be treated with total respect and caution. They will revel in the increased kudus and power that results from Russia’s economic demise.
  • NATO should be gearing up for a blitzkrieg – if it has to act, and I hope it will not, it will need to be a swift and massive hit, done with China being informed before hand – even if it is just seconds! Better if it was a pan European force – fu**ing Brexit.
  • The nuclear threat – ultimately this has to be ignored! What a simple statement for mass destruction? But Putin will do what he does, and there seems little alternative to the possibility of hitting his military hard. Will this result in nuclear war? What is the alternative? Continued slaughter in Ukraine? How prepared is the west for this eventuality?
  • Presumably NATO is using satellites to monitor troop movements that may threaten other sovereign countries like Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia. Some of these countries are far from the Western European political philosophy that at present dominates (just). How far should we be prepared to contribute financially to the protection of racist populations like Poland and Hungary?
  • Polish and other countries reception for non-white refugees is appalling. This cannot be ignored by the EU – although it will almost certainly be ignored by the nasty party.
  • Back to the war – air power is an interesting aspect. USA veto’s Poland donating planes to Ukraine – is there something about air defence systems? What has happened to the Ukrainian Air Force? Cruise missiles and the like seem to be unstoppable?
  • Will UK establishment use this conflict to justify increase in nuclear weapons?
