There is little the west can do without declaring war on Russia, other than bring economic pressure to bear. Sanctions however rarely work efficiently and it would be the poor Russians who suffer most. There are also plenty of countries which will be willing to trade for oil and wheat and other raw materials.
Again I would ask if there is an end result other than escalation?
