WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

Track and trace continues to be a very expensive joke, that obviously is not working despite the figures bandied about. The virus is still spreading. Opening up the universities was an obvious error of judgement (or lack of). They should be closed, and students returned home in a planned way. Exceptions could be made where necessary for vulnerable students.

The country and the population cannot afford another lockdown. A circuit breaker will not work by itself. It needs a collective response from every individual. This needs a clear, explained, code of behaviour that applies to all. Social distancing and mask wearing mandatory, and enforced. (With no exceptions for politicians, advisors or their families).

Sweden is often used as an example of a lack of state control. Firstly in had more deaths than surrounding countries, largely due to care home problems. But the public were given advice about social distancing and mask wearing, and it was largely observed. South Korea has had few deaths for similar reasons. So Boris Bloody Johnson, stop procrastinating and pontificating. Give clear leadership on behaviour, and ensure Westminster follows it. And reverse the pay rise for M.P.s, like really reverse it – make it a pay cut.

It may be too late – not because of the ability to contain the virus, but because public trust in politicians and authority has been undermined. The young revellers seen in many large cities are not terrorists or criminals – just young people fed up with being abused and abandoned by the system. Young people – go out and enjoy safely, and if there is someone at home who is vulnerable Stay Out!
