WOMEN AND SAFETY
Despite high profile cases the safety of women in the UK remains perilous. 1.6 million women suffered domestic abuse – cases referred to CPS = 77.812. In the year to March 2020 over 200 women were killed in the UK. Femicide Crisis reports a death toll of 1 woman every 3 days over the 10 YEARS to 2018, with over 90% of killers being men. And yet another young girl is murdered.
MIGRATION
Very sad. The Sun has a picture of French Police watching a boat leave. Xenophobia is promoted. Radio 5 allowed a woman on a phone in to state that ‘many’ migrants were criminals escaping justice and economic migrants. First off – there appear to be more criminals in the House of Commons on the Tory benches. Secondly, I am not sure at what age a child stops being a child and becomes an economic migrant. Hopefully some of these people might start work in one of the many areas we are short of labour as soon as possible.
BREXIT
The government introduced a fast track scheme to attract the world’s greatest and most celebrated brains to the UK. Number of applicants equals zero.
BREXIT is a disaster – please comment if there are any positives – I would love to know.
DEMOCRACY
First past the post is supposed to give us the best form of democracy. An MP we can see and lobby. However in the majority of cases the MP is elected by a minority of the electorate who could vote. Often they may support a view not held by the majority of their own electorate – e.g. a pro-remain Tory elected by a leave voting constituency. Obviously a far from perfect system.
NASTY PARTY
The social care cap is designed to allow the rich to keep more of their housing wealth than the poor. No surprise at all. After all the poor pay a higher proportion of their income in tax anyway. In some ways it was a shock that owners of property worth over £1 million had to pay anything at all.
U HAVE TO BE JOKING!
Consultants being paid £6000- a day (each! the collective cost is over £1 million per day) by NHS test and trace. All part of the £37 billion scam that it is agreed has not met its main objective. I have said many times that the actual facts about Covid spread are opaque – but I could guarantee that I could have organised a more effective scheme for so much less.

BLAME
COVID
Where are we now? In the UK numbers remain high at the 500-600 level, and the NHS is coping – just. The government and indeed all of us are hoping that the high levels we have had since opening up society without precautions will have given us some sort of herd immunity. Even though that concept seems to have been discarded as a fallacy 18 months ago.
