Points to make. The last 3 stats are for areas with approx 10000people and therefore more liable to fluctuation and maybe a single family group of positives?
Wales looks very positive – has their lockdown been enforced more – that is the impression given by the press?
What we really need is all figures below 50, preferably 20, before we have any relaxation of restrictions. My start date was the end of September, Exeter had a University problem so not a fair stat. Bigger cities and metropolitan areas remain too high. Presumably this is mainly younger people? People who cannot isolate due to work or living arrangements.
Vaccination must help, although the rates should have come down faster than they are if they were having an immediate impact. Rates in many areas are still higher than just before Xmas (7 weeks into second lockdown). Personally I would like to see the situation where anyone testing positive leads to a measured, but total lockdown. I.e. If someone in Sandford caught it, the village would be locked down – shop, road, everything, for 4 days until everyone could be properly tested. (I am sure some sort of help line could be created for where necessary).
And on vaccination – I am reading today that take up in BAME communities is lower, even amongst Doctors. Some serious education needs to be done here.
And as the age groups to be vaccinated comes down, I guess the take up rate will go down. Can it be pointed out that the more people liable to catch it, even if not really affected, the greater the chance of the virus mutating.
