COVID

And concerns over mental health keep being aired without possible solutions – I guess because the years of Tory rule and austerity have closed the welfare centres, libraries, etc..

The infection rate is spreading to the older generation after a while of being mainly confined to the younger age groups. And still people go into the shop with no mask. Grrrh.

And people talking about the economy versus health. Well burr brains it is not an either or! I think it needs detailed analysis of the stats, and then targeted action. Support fully those forced to isolate rather than just hope they will take a hit of their lost wages for two weeks. Also some nonsense about testing 10% of the population once a week. It might look good for publicity, but surely better targeting would be more effective.

With the infection rate – r number well above 1 there must be a significant number of people who are spreading the virus. Some may be asymptotic and therefore not know. Others may feel ok’ish but cannot self-isolate for a variety of reasons like size of home, etc. Hotels are shut – use them to offer isolation facilities for self-isolating. It would help keep unemployment lower, help contain the virus, enable mental support where necessary.

But we have a government willing to pay £6000 a day fees for advice on how not to run test and trace, but not willing to offer free school meals to eligible children during holidays. Again logic defies me – a child is not getting proper nutrition during term time is suddenly going to magically get it during the holidays.
