Queenie is exempt by law from having homes searched for looted artefacts. Why?
Vaccine passports may become natatory in pubs and cinema’s. Quite how this will work is unclear.
Williamson continues to be a total dumb ass. He is backing a teacher who showed Charlie Hebo images of Muhammed to Asian students. I am all for freedom of expression, but the teacher must have been either really stupid, thick or insensitive. We all know this is a sensitive issue, and with hate crime on the increase (and the deaths in USA) such crass behaviour should not be endorsed by a government minister.
John Lewis is closing more stores. I suspect that they will become a bit like IKEA with a few regional centre stores for people to visit, the rest on line. This is probably inevitable, but will have a major impact on council funds. Business rates are high and must be adjusted so that online stores also pay the same. Or maybe local councils should receive a portion of income tax or VAT? Central Government seems intent on maximising its hold on taxation and expenditure. Yes councils, like governments get it wrong (apparently Liverpool), and there will need to be checks and balances. But a reform of taxation for companies like Amazon is overdue. We should not be punishing their success, but neither should we punish competing High Street stores. Council tax would seem to penalise the poor, and favour the rich. So transfer it to income tax – saving large amounts in administration. Distribution will be a problem as we have seen how corrupt this government is with distribution of funds! But surely an equitable formulae can be reached to ensure that basic services are maintained. Maybe we should then be able to vote for certain schemes.
The immediate reaction is that people will not vote for higher taxation – but they might if it made their area more appealing and house prices and facilities increased?
