THE HIGH STREET

I said earlier – is it too late?- my hypothesis is that society in the UK was never as strong as on the continent where patisseries and cafes seem to thrive. We seem to be dominated by the car – hence the vandalism of ULEZ cameras which are basically there to enhance the environment for living. As Truss, Saab, Skidmore, Patel and Kwarteng pointed out in their book ‘Britannia Unchained’ they see the public as a lazy workforce – no work/life balance can be tolerated in the pursuit of profit. Sunak’s government has tried to prevent 4 day weeks being experimented with by some councils (despite provisional results that productivity is increased).

Councils are being starved of money and having to cut back on all things community (Is this seen by the right wing as WOKE?). Youth clubs now seem to cease to exist, swimming pools are shutting, pubs are closing, and community centres dominated by a few! and 6000 shops have closed in last 5 years. We shop on line (I am totally guilty of this). Our front gardens are green deserts which are cut every 2 weeks (or like mine left to develop in its own way!). I can seriously go weeks without speaking to a neighbour – most never leave their property without the safety of a motoriesed iron box around them.
